How much does a dry ridge system cost?

MyJobQuote's dry ridge cost guide, updated 21 August 2026, puts a dry ridge system at £40 to £75 per linear metre installed, and the average whole job at £1,250. That is its market range, not a price for your roof.

What does a dry ridge cost by roof size?

MyJobQuote puts a small terraced roof with a short ridge at £500 to £900, taking a day. A standard semi-detached is £900 to £1,600 and takes one to two days. A large or complex ridge line is £1,600 to £2,500 and takes two days.

It prices hips on top, £300 to £400 each, and says most hip roofs need two to four, adding £600 to £1,600.

MyJobQuote says labour rates are typically higher in London and the South East.

What the per metre figure leaves out

MyJobQuote lists scaffolding, waste removal, stripping the old mortar and tile replacement separately from its headline cost. The per metre rate is not the bill. It puts scaffolding at £300 to £900 for the job.

It puts skip hire and waste removal at £80 to £200 by skip size, and removing the old mortar and existing ridge tiles at £150 to £300, which covers checking the battens and underlay beneath.

It puts replacing damaged tiles at £4 to £10 per tile, and says crumbling mortar adds to the removal cost. Old tiles often break in the lifting, so treat reuse as a bonus.

Does a dry ridge job need scaffolding?

MyJobQuote says both things on its own two pages. Its dry ridge guide says most homes need scaffolding for this work, especially where the ridge is high up or access is limited. Its ridge tile guide says most ridge work is done off a roof ladder at no extra cost, and that scaffolding is only needed on a roof that is high, hard to reach or near a public path.

Height, access and what sits under the ridge decide it. A semi with clear garden either side and an easy reach is usually a roof ladder job. A tall or steep roof will not be.

Ask for scaffolding as its own quote line either way. A price that leaves it out can grow later.

Dry ridge or repointing: how to decide

Repointing is cheaper on the day. MyJobQuote's ridge tile guide prices repointing ridge tiles at £200 to £300 per 10m of ridge. Its dry ridge guide puts £900 to £1,900 on replacing old ridge tiles with a dry ridge system, once removing the existing mortar and tiles is counted in.

MyJobQuote states that mortar bedding cracks and needs repointing every 10 to 15 years, and that a dry ridge system typically lasts 20 to 30 years. On those ranges a mortar ridge is repointed once to three times over the life of one dry ridge. That is our reasoning, not a published figure.

Repointing is still right when the bed is sound and only a few joints have gone. Fresh mortar on a failed bed drops out again. If a reroof is coming, wait: the ridge goes on new with it.

How to get a price for your ridge

Dry verge and dry ridge is the work Vision Roofing Services specialises in, printed on our leaflet: We Are Specialists In Maintenance Free Dry Verge & Ridge Systems.

We will not put a price on your ridge off this page. Ring 07477 536 273 and we will come and look or price it over the phone. The estimate is free, we only charge if we do the work, a price stands for 30 days, and payment is due on completion.

Repair work carries a 5 year guarantee. On a dry ridge installation the work is guaranteed, and we do not publish a term for it.

Where these figures come from

Every price on this page is quoted from a published cost guide, named in the text beside it. Nothing here is averaged or estimated.
